Description

So this is the second of Mythical creatures I decided to design. So many people have drawn this particular creature so I wanted to make sure mine could stand out as much as possible. But I also wanted to try and stay true to the original lore. And in doing some research I found out something that many people haven't used.
Usually, people seem to base their cyclops design off of "The Odyssey" version. But before that, Hesiod described Cyclops that were pretty different. While Homer's were just sheep eating herders on an island, Hesiod described three Cyclopes, Brontes, Arges, and Steropes, who actually forged powerful weapons for the Greek Gods. As in Hades' helmet, Poseidon's Trident, and Zeus' thunderbolts. I wanted to use that as a base for mine.
So these Cyclopes can forge you magical weapons but I wanted to make sure I didn't outright leave the more known version so they also herd sheep and probably eat them but also make clothes with their wool. They also build giant stone structures which there are Cyclopean masonry and are called that because only Cyclops could have the strength to build them.
The other detail never touched upon is they were born from Uranus, God of the skies, and Gaia, God of the earth. But Gods are something I didn't want to make a part of this. That's when I came up with the idea for how they are born. Which also led to the color scheme I chose and the look.
Finally, the head was where I really wanted my version to stand out. Since there are theories that Cyclopes could've been inspired by Dwarf Elephant skulls in ancient times, I used that as a base for the head. I wanted to further create a little difference between them so I decided to have them natural hair styles to die for! FABULOUS!
Well I hope I have wowed you with my latest piece of artwork. Please comment on what you like and din't like and if you could, a critique.
Thanks in advance!
